As part of UEWM's ongoing efforts in extending health education to the public and cultivating health awareness, we offer classes to the public with the objective of improving the well-being of the community. We offer classes in the following topics:
Qi-Gong and Tai-Chi-Chuan
Tai Chi Chuan is an exercise system of ancient origin. It is an art of self-defense based upon the movements of animals and birds as well as the philosophy of Yin and Yang from the Chinese classic, the I-Ching. Qi-Gong energetic are exercises that heal the human body through a combination of rhythmic respiration and body movements; through regular use it enhances relaxation and increases internal circulation and life-energy.
Chinese as a Second Language Class
You will learn Mandarin Chinese and be able to speak, read, and write simple Chinese characters within half a year.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Program
English as a Second Language Class
Improve listening, writing, and reading skills in English as a second language.
Family Health
Aligning our daily life with the natural cycles of our environment brings harmony and health to our life and body. Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and instructions for self-help and health will be addressed, using such techniques as color, music, massage, food, etc.
Tui-Na Massage
Tui-Na Massage is a generic term for Traditional Chinese Massage to treat injuries of the tendons, muscles and organ disorders. This gentle yet effective massage modality uses pressure on body-points and specific strokes along the meridians to regulate and harmonize the flow of qi and blood.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Food Therapy
Chinese people have known for centuries that ordinary foods contain powerful healing properties. Based on the Five Element Theory and the Principle of Yin and Yang, each food is characterized by its particular properties of flavor, energy, and action. Diet therapy regulates and treats the different organs of the body according to the properties of the foods.
CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid/Safety
CPR courses can be taken as Adult CPR or Adult/Infant/Child CPR, which includes rescue breathing, choking rescue (Adult/Infant/Child CPR is valid for 1 year). Community First Aid/Safety course includes bleeding control, treatment of burns, fractures, sprains, steins, seizures, poisoning, heat and cold emergencies (Community First Aid/Safety is valid for 3 years).
