The University of East-West Medicine is approved by the California Bureau of Private and Post-secondary Vocational Education (BPPVE) to offer classes in Asian Bodywork and Massage Therapy. The UEWM massage program, Professional Massage Healing, will prepare students for a career in the therapeutic massage field. The regulations for the profession of therapeutic massage practitioner vary from city to city in California . When researching massage schools it is important that you know the number of hours required by the city in which you wish to practice so that the education you receive will be adequate. UEWM's Program will have enough hours to satisfy the requirements of most cities in the south bay area. Ultimately it is the student's responsibility to ensure that the number of hours of education he or she receives is adequate. Traditional Chinese Medicine Program
Massage bodywork is widely accepted as the most popular form of alternative medicine in the U.S. today. Certified Massage Therapists are employed in medical and chiropractic offices, acupuncture clinics, spas and beauty shops, mineral springs, on cruise ships, or are self-employed. Training requirements vary; please check with your local business license office to find out the requirements for licensing in your city (direct to local cities requirements page) .
In UEWM's Massage Program, students will learn a wide variety of therapeutic massage techniques as well as aspects of nutrition, anatomy, physiology, and counseling skills in foundations or basics of therapeutic massage to serve as a basis for more advanced studies. The students will then be exposed to more specialized forms of therapeutic massage so that they will have a variety of treatment modalities to choose from. UEWM has a teaching clinic on campus so our massage students can get "hands on" experience working with massage clients. All of the courses and the clinical experience will be geared towards giving students the knowledge and ability to become successful therapeutic massage practitioners.
