The University of East-West Medicine is one of SF Bay Area’s notable graduate schools of traditional Chinese medicine. We provide graduate courses & non-degree programs in acupuncture, herbology, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Asian bodywork therapy, and other traditional Chinese medicine disciplines. Courses are available in the English, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean language.

Positions Available:

Position: Adjunct Faculty 

The University of East-West Medicine is seeking additional adjunct faculty to teach didactic courses covering a range of topics in TCM and Integrated Medicine in our Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program. Classes are scheduled on the weekends. To attract qualified candidates for the San Francisco Bay Area Campus in Sunnyvale, we will consider reimbursement for travel costs.

Minimal Requirements

  1. Earned DAOM or doctoral degree in related field.
  2. Good English speaking and writing skills

Front Desk Receptionist- Immediate Hire

We have an immediate opening for a full-time or part-time Front Desk Receptionist for the University and/or Medical Clinic.

The primary job function of this position is to operate the college’s telephone/communication center and serve as the information/referral center for all residents, staff and visitors. This position will provide services and support to staff in a manner that exceeds expectations. This is a part-time or full-time position.

Schedule: Wednesday 9:00am - 6:30pm; Thursday 9:00am-6:30pm; additional hours TBA.

Scope of Responsibilities Include:
- Answers incoming telephone calls in a cheerful and marketing oriented way, determines purpose of callers, and forwards calls to appropriate personnel or department
- Answers general questions about the community and provides callers with address, directions, and other information and refers other specific questions to appropriate staff
- Welcomes on-site visitors, determines nature of business, and announces visitors to appropriate personnel
- Updates appointment calendars, including transportation and beauty calendars, as directed
- Receives, sorts, and routes mail
- Distributes written communication, accepts and signs for deliveries
- Maintains copy and fax machines, assists users, sends faxes, and retrieves and routes incoming faxes
- Orders, receives and maintains office supplies
- Other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, and collating.

Requirements Include:

  • Compensation: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour based on experience.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Training provided.
  • Must speak English & Chinese (Mandarin) fluently.
  • Ability to operate telephone, copier, & fax machine.
  • Ability to work various schedules and shifts as needed.

4. Faculty
  • Observe, supervise, and evaluate faculty.
  • Aids faculty in the development and implementation of the curriculum
  • Conducts regular meetings with faculty, which will deal with both routine school matters and with the exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern
  • Serves as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures
  • Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers, to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of the school operation.
  • Makes recommendations to the VP of Academic Affairs and President regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty
5. Students
  • Provide for the academic guidance of students; to maintain complete academic records on all students; to oversee the grading and reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
  • Review and approve all transfer credit requests made by transfer students.
  • Respond to student’s questions concerning matters of curriculum.
  • Interview all incoming students and make the final determination of acceptance.
  • Respond to student’s questions regarding matters of scheduling and curriculum.
  • Develops and Maintains Student Retention Program
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • Licensed Acupuncturist in the USA.
  • Master of Arts in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Equivalent.
  • Writing, Reading and Speaking English at the College Level.
  • Administrative and Teaching experience in a TCM school.
  • History of successful teaching experience in a TCM school.
  • Strong Computer Skills including: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse school community members.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to a philosophy of education consistent with the school’s mission statement and goals.

Job Title: Academic Advisor

Job Duties: Provide general educational advisement and career development consulting to students. Handle all academic related requests including curriculum concerns or issues, program requirement, academic appeals, probation and dismissal counseling. Consult with faculty and the management on special concerns and requests of students; organize counseling workshops and seminars to address concerns of students. Develop and monitor interventions related to student academic status and success.

Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration or related with 5 years’ experience or Master’s degree with 6 months experience. Must have experience in education/student consulting in a higher education environment.


Job Title: Licensed Acupuncturist

Qualifications:
Required - have an acupuncture license in California
Preferred – have acupuncture practice experience, Mandarin Chinese is a plus

Duties included but not limited to:
Set up patients for treatments, manage patient supplements and supplement sales, liaison with

Doctor regarding patients’ needs, follow office procedures, and assist Doctor with certain treatment protocols. Make sure the Doctor has patients ready for him so he never has to wait.

Go over Center’s policies with patients. Prepare any needed paperwork with patients such as service agreements, daily service report, etc. Take notes in the written record exactly what was done.

Make sure consultation and treatment rooms are clean, orderly throughout the day and fully stocked for the next day. Order any needed supplies for the treatment rooms. Turn off the vents and lights in the treatment area at the end of the day.

Keeps the area moving so back ups are kept to a minimum and short. Help out on any backlogged filing in the insurance or front desk area.

Must be sincere and empathetic with patients, have a positive attitude, and develop a trusting relationship with patients and staff. Computer literacy required.

Must be organized, have the ability to follow through and complete work assignments independently, be responsible and pay attention to details. Interest in nutrition & "alternative health care" a plus. The job is 40 hours per week.
