California Acupuncture Board
 

In California, a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) is an independent primary care practitioner whose practice encompasses acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, Oriental massage, acupressure and breathing techniques. The University of East-West Medicine is approved by the California Acupuncture Board. Graduates of the M.S. programs (Traditional Chinese Medicine) offered at the University of East-West Medicine. Graduates of the UEWM are eligible to sit for the California Acupuncture Licensing Examination. The California Acupuncture Board is located at 1747 N. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS)
 
The University of East-West Medicine is approved under the Department of Homeland Security to enroll non-immigrant alien students for attendance by non-immigrant international students (I-20).
 
National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
 
The National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine’s (NCCAOM) goal is to promote nation¬ally recognized standards of excellence to insure public safety. The NCCAOM examinations are used by many state agencies as a part of their licensing requirements. Students at the University of East-West Medicine are eligible to sit for the National Certification Examinations.
 
US Department of Education
 
The University of East-West Medicine is approved to operate the Master of Science Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine under the High Education Act (HEA) of 1965 by the US Department of Education.
 
Federal Student Aid
 
The Federal Government has approved the University of East-West Medicine to issue Federal Student Aid in the form of PELL Grants, Federal Work Study, Stafford Federal Subsidized, Unsubsidized and PLUS Loans under Title 4 of the HEA to eligible students.
 
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)
 
The University is an approved TOEFL and GRE test site. We try to provide a comfortable test site for our students and others. It is our hope that our students will be more successful in their testing by having the convenience and a familiar setting to take their examination.
 
Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Master Of Science Of Traditional Chinese Medicine:
The Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine program of the University of East-West Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners. ACAOM is located at 14502 Greenview Drive,  Suite 300B,  Laurel, MD  20708; (301) 313-0855; fax (301) 313-0912. Eligible students in the accredited Master’s programs may participate in federal student financial aid programs.
 
Doctor Of Acupuncture And Oriental Medicine (DAOM):

The University of East West Medicine has received approval by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine to begin offering a post-graduate doctoral program titled "Doctor of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine program" ("DAOM") pursuant to substantive change ACAOM's procedures. This approval is only the first step in the process toward accreditation of the program and is not an official status with the Commission. No assurance is made by granting approval to commence the program that the program will eventually be granted either Candidacy or Accreditation.

Students enrolled in this program are not eligible to participate in the Federal grant and loan programs.

On June 19, 2009 the University of East West Medicine received approval from ACAOM to begin offering the DAOM program in English only. This approval to begin offering the program, allowed the University of East West Medicine to accept students into the English DAOM program and to pursue candidacy/accreditation for the program through ACAOM.

On September 1, 2011 ACAOM approved UEWM to begin offering the DAOM in a Mandarin language track.


The University of East West Medicine has submitted an Eligibility/Self Study Report to ACAOM for the DAOM program and a site visitation was conducted. The university cannot guarantee that the application for candidacy/accreditation will be accepted by ACAOM or that candidacy/accreditation will be awarded.
